Morning Time

We will depart from the hotel after breakfast and head out to Angkor Thom and stop at the South Gate of Angkor Thom City. Here, we will enter the city and move to the Bayon Temple which was built in the 13th century by King Jayavarman VII. Bayon is famous for the many galleries of Bas-reliefs that tell the story of what life was like at that time. This is also the temple, where you will see the famous faces looking down at your from all angles.

The tour will continue with visits to Baphuon Temple, Elephant Terrace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the Royal Palace. We’ll finish the morning off with a visit to see Ta Prohm temple which is one of the most popular temples in the area because it was used during the filming of the famous Tomb Raider movie. Ta Prohm was built in the mid 12th to 13th centuries and was originally used as a Buddhist monastery and university.

We’ll then stop for lunch at a local restaurant inside the Angkor Archaeological Park.

Afternoon Time

After lunch, we’ll go to see the one you’ve been waiting for – Angkor Wat. This huge temple was built in 1113 – 1150 AD by King Suryavarman II and it measures 330 metres by 260 metres. Angkor Wat has three levels with 5 main towers. Inside the temple, the walls are covered in bas-reliefs which depict ancient Hindu mythology and a war which happened during the reign of King Suryavarman II. Angkor Wat has become the national symbol of Cambodia and is even found on the nation’s flag as it symbolises the soul of the country.

We’ll also visit a local fruit market and wander through the narrow alleyways exploring the stalls full of fresh produce for the day. Your local guide will be able to provide you with an insight into what’s on sale, how much they cost, and arrange to test some exotic dishes! The Khmer have a culinary culture dating back for 3,000 years. Today, the street food has been influenced by Western, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Thai dishes.

In the evening, we’ll get away from the tourist spots and go to sample some of the delicious snacks which the locals enjoy. From fresh fruit, BBQ meat, or even deep-fried insects, there’s something new for everyone to enjoy!
